The Brooklyn Block Party

Section 8 / Ferdydurke

As part of Good Beer Week, New York's finest brewer, Brooklyn Brewery, are teaming up with Section 8 and Ferdydurke, bringing a huge Brooklyn-themed block party to the heart of Melbourne.

Section 8 and Ferdydurke will be lining up a huge array of international and local musicians - celebrating art and culture inspired by Brooklyn, New York.

BROOKLYN BLOCK PARTY HUB AT SECTION 8

New York’s own GE-OLOGY will be leading the charge at the Brooklyn Block Party hub at Section 8. An acclaimed music producer, DJ and visual artist - GE-OLOGY’s career spans two decades and a long list of collaborators including Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Jill Scott, De La Soul and a young Tupac Shakur. GE-OLOGY will be joined by legendary New York turntablist Total Eclipse (from DJ collective The X-Executioners). Born into a close-knit Brooklyn community, Total Eclipse’s talents on the turntables built his reputation - and he’s since worked alongside Jay-Z, Rob Swift and played parties for MTV. Melbourne based hip-hop/soul collective ESESE will be blasting their smoothest sounds live, while champ selectors Jimmy Dawg and Mickey Edwards will be on decks to make sure this Brooklyn Block Party edition is the loosest yet.

Brass Knuckle BBQ will be a smoking out Section 8's laneway with plenty of tasty things, and there’ll be a full range of Brooklyn Brewery beers usually unavailable in Australia up for the taking.

‘DO OR DIVE’ AT FERDYDURKE

Call your mates, BYO hair grease and turn up the dial to 11. Upstairs, Ferdydurke will be hosting ‘Do or Dive’ - a nod to Brooklyn’s grittiest watering holes, secret stages and stomping grounds that have played home to some of rock ’n’ roll’s best live music discoveries. Ferdydurke’s loft will be vamped up with neons and dive bar paraphernalia for the night - while Brooklyn Beer will be doing a full tap takeover. A crew of barbers will be setting up shop on Ferdydurke's balcony from 2pm - 6pm dishing out $5 cuts. In the evening, catch Veteran rock ’n’ roll DJ Mermaid (who's spun tunes for the likes of Richie Ramone + Eagles of Death Metal) spinning the good stuff. Rockabilly legends The Rechords will be playing a special live set. Along with local heroes Rattlin’ Bones Blackwood and Night On The Tiles rounding up the lineup, there'll be enough rhythm and blues goods up in the loft to get you toe-tapping from beer until infinity.
